Awesome stationary that doesn’t cost the Earth
In looking for like minded business people I came across Kirsten at ‘PaperByForgetMeNot’.
I looked through her shop and really liked the products. I chose 2 packs of writing paper as I thought they were particularly pretty. When I first placed my order I wondered what the packaging would be like as the wording on the site said “Minimal packaging is part of our design process, in line with our desire to be environmentally aware”, now was that an excuse for not providing much packaging and it being not so nice?
I couldn’t have been more wrong!
As soon as it arrived I was seriously impressed! In fact knowing what goodies were inside I wanted to open it immediately but I managed to wait until my husband got home so that he could open it ‘really’ carefully with his special envelope opening knife in an attempt to be able to reuse the large brown corrugated cardboard A4 envelope that is was all in. It was all very securely sealed so it was quite a job opening it neatly without resorting to ripping it open but I did SO want to keep the big envelope as it’s ideal for keeping paper work in and looks so smart!
Having got inside it was an excellent example of product “awesomisation”. I’ve read others talking about this subject on the net and essentially it’s about making your whole product or service awesome, rather than just ‘ok’. The idea being to make yourself stand out from the crowd and win customer loyalty, word of mouth referrals etc.
The stationary I bought was 2 lots of 10 sheets of 100% hand made recycled paper with envelopes. They were in a stack with a fitted piece of cardboard behind them to keep them neat and flat. This was all bound with a matching piece of paper about 2 inches wide.
As if all that wasn’t enough there was also a small object in with which took me a few seconds to work out what it was. It was clearly something bound with a piece of hand made paper. It was about 3×3 inches and turned out to be a small pad of paper. The inside pad wasn’t hand made (I don’t think!) but the decorative outside was. This had a company stamp on the outside too.It was like getting a present when it wasn’t my birthday!
I SO enjoyed opening all this as clearly so much time had been put into it and so much thought about it’s packaging and presentation, it really was a treat!
All in all I’m seriously impressed as this only cost me £14 and £2 of it was p&p from Australia! Do you know, there was even a hand written Thank you for your order card inside too – now you don’t get this sort of treatment everyday
What ‘awesome’ products have you bought recently that didn’t cost the earth? Do comment and let me know so that we can all benefit
